Linux JTablet Project

Cellosoft's JTablet is a combination of Java library and JNI code to allow applications easy access to tablets. It is used by several software projects, but unfortunately is Windows-only at the moment. The Linux JTablet Project seeks to develop a JNI backend for JTablet which is functional under X11.

Development has been underway since October 2007, and as of February 2009 the project is mentioned on the Cellosoft website. Although not yet merged with the Cellosoft tree, it is hoped to get the two combined at some future point in time.

Getting Started

Head over to the installation page for a list of requirements and instructions to get you started. This will guide you through the process of getting JTablet installed on your machine, and help you with testing everything out. If you encounter problems, head over to the troubleshooting page for possible solutions.

Similar Projects

There are two other projects I know of targeting the creation of a Java tablet API accessible under linux. These projects are:

  • JPen: Another Java library for accessing tablets on linux, Windows and Mac OS X. Provides some features not available with JTablet, but is not yet as widely used.
  • JWacom: One of the oldest Java libraries for this purpose, and perhaps the only project of this sort with only a Linux version.
